Trump and Haley aim to win SC presidential primary after Palmetto State stops

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — For the past few months, both Donald Trump and Nikki Haley have crisscrossed the Palmetto State in anticipation of Saturday’s primary.

While the latest polls show the former president leading the former South Carolina governor, the Palmetto State’s voters will have the ultimate say at the ballot box.

Saturday, South Carolinians have between 7 am and 7 pm to head to their polling location to participate in the Republican presidential primary. Both former governor Nikki Haley and former president Donald Trump have been touring the Palmetto State over the past few weeks to get their message across to voters.

“Don’t complain about what happens in a general election if you do not go out and vote in this primary,” Haley said to voters in South Carolina. “It matters.”

“Today, we’re a nation that is being laughed at. We are not going to stand for it,” Trump said to South Carolinians in Conway. “We’re going to win in November and turn our country around. It’s going to be greater than before.”

Campaigning for both candidates started back in the fall, Trump making a Low Country stop back in September.

“It’s great to be back in this incredible state with the hard working and God-fearing patriots that make our country run,” Trump said in Summerville.

In October, Haley officially filed to be on the primary ballot at the South Carolina statehouse.

“We have to start being a strong and proud America again. We did it in South Carolina and are going to finish it in the Oval Office,” Haley said at the statehouse. “I’m going to work hard to make you proud like I always have. Together, we will work to save our country and get it back on track.”

This week, Trump has stated that he feels that Haley has no chance of beating him in her home state.

“It looks like she’s going to lose by 25 or 30 points. That’s a lot,” Trump said. “She was governor but people don’t like her that much. She’s hurting the party.”

Despite what the polls predict, Haley has promised to stay in the race past tomorrow’s primary.

“I have no fear of Trump’s retribution,” the former South Carolina governor said. “I’m not looking for anything from him.”

If you still have an absentee ballot out, you have until 7 pm tomorrow to return it to your county election office. For those here in Richland County, that office is located at 2020 Hampton Street. No matter how you decide to vote, be sure to bring your photo ID.
