FORT JACKSON, S.C. (WOLO)– The U.S. Army is releasing more information into the death of a chaplain student at Fort Jackson, say officials.

Army officials say the chaplain student was 38-year-old Chaplain Candidate (2Lt.) Pascal Buma.

“It is with great sorrow that we mourn the loss of one of our own, ” USA-IRL Commandant, Chaplain (COL) Louis DelTufo states.

Buma died at Fort Jackson’s Institute for Religious Leadership on Monday, February 26.

Officials say the Chaplain Basic Officer Leader Course student and member of the Oklahoma National Guard collapsed during the morning physical training ability group run.

Instructors and students provided immediate aid until Fort Jackson EMS arrived to the scene.

Then Buma was taken to MUSC Health where he was later pronounced dead.

“We ask for your prayers for the Family, fellow students and our staff here at the Institute,” continues USA-IRL Commandant, Chaplain (COL) Louis DelTufo.
