More people filed their taxes for free so far this year compared to last year, IRS says

(CNN)– More people are filing their taxes for free this year compared to a year ago.

The IRS says use of its “free file” system is up 9.7% from last year.

About 943 thousand taxpayers have used the free option through late February.

You need an adjusted gross income of $79 thousand or less to be eligible for “free file”.

The system lets taxpayers file for free using one of eight IRS partners.
