IRS launches Direct File free online tax filing program

(CNN)– The IRS is launching a new pilot program called IRS Direct File in 12 states on Tuesday.

It’s an online tac preparation tool that is part of a broader plan which has stirred some controversy.

Direct file allows eligible taxpayers to get their tax returns ready and file them online at no charge.
