HOPKINS, S.C. (WOLO)– Park rangers from Congaree National Park will be conducting a small prescribed burn on Thursday, say officials.
Park officials say the fire will be conducted in the Harry Hampton Southwest Unit along the entrance road near the Harry Hampton Visitor Center if the weather and conditions permit it to happen on March 14.
The goal of the prescribed burn is to help with fuel reduction and habitat restoration in accordance with the park’s fire management plan.
Also, park officials say portions of the Longleaf Trail and Firefly Trail will be closed to foot traffic as well as the picnic shelter and the first visitor center parking lot.
Drivers are urged to use caution as fire crews and equipment will be operating along the park entrance road.
Recreational access to other park trails including the boardwalk and facilities will remain open. For more information click here.
