Southwest Airlines announced it will hire fewer pilots and flight attendants

(CNN)– Southwest Airlines announced Tuesday it plans to hire fewer people this year.

That is because the supplier of its aircraft is under federal investigation over problems with its 737 max planes.

Southwest flies Boeing Jets exclusively.

And Boeing says it plans to deliver far fewer planes to Southwest than expected this year.

Southwest says in turn it will hire about 50% fewer pilots and 60% fewer flight attendants.

The airline says its overall head count will be down this year.
