Dollar General is rolling back self-checkout in thousands of stores
(CNN)– Dollar General is the latest retailer to back away from self-checkout registers.
Dollar General is removing self-checkout stands in its 300 stores with the highest rates of shoplifting and merchandise losses.
In nine thousand stores some or all self-checkout registers will be converted to regular with cashiers.
And in about 45 hundred stores, self-checkout purchases will be limited to five items or fewer.
Dollar General said the changes will help reduce losses from shoplifting.
The company made the decision after analyzing thousands of purchases at self-checkout kiosks.
