LEXINGTON S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is charging a former Town of Lexington employee after officials say she used a P-Card for personal use.
Beatrice L. Lyons-Daniels is accused of using a Town of Lexington issued P-Card to make around $57, 201.13 unauthorized purchases.
Officials say the card was only suppose to be used for required items for the town’s IT Department and that she used the Town of Lexington’s Amazon account to make the purchases.
Since September 2014 until December 2023, Lyons-Daniels was the Town of Lexington’s Information Technology Director.
According to the Town of Lexington, the town’s finance department uncovered discrepancies with invoices submitted from the purchasing card assigned to Lyons-Daniels in early December 2023.
Officials also went on to say that an internal audit of the purchasing card uncovered numerous unauthorized expenditures with misleading documentation and fraudulent invoices associated with the purchases.
Additionally, the alleged unauthorized purchases were over $57,000 and occurred from July 2021 to December 2023.
On December 8, 2023, the Town of Lexington asked SLED to investigate for possible criminal charges.
Lyons-Daniels was placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation was completed and then she was terminated from employment with the town on December 15, 2023.
She is being charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent over $10,000.
