SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A broken headlight traffic stop leads to an arrest after drugs are found in vehicle, say Sumter deputies.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were on patrol in the McCrays Mill Road near Pinewood Road area when they noticed a vehicle with a broken headlight around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.
So deputies attempted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, they informed Rebekah Lee Brockington that her headlight was broken and asked for a driver’s license.
When she could not produce a driver’s license, deputies say they asked for her name and birth date to confirm her identify which came back as not in the system.
Investigators say due to her behavior during the traffic stop, a k-9 free-air search of the vehicle took place which led to probable cause for a search.
The search resulted in the discovery of narcotics and cocaine. Brockington is being charged with possession of narcotics and possession of cocaine.
She was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and given a $5000 bond.
