SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– A man has recently been arrested in Sumter after he was seen waving a gun while at a park, say officers.
According to the Sumter Police Department, officers were called to Dillon Park before 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving reports of a man holding a gun and waving it around.
When officers arrived to the park and approached the man, he dropped the gun.
Damien Lamar Johnson, 29, of Rast Street, was placed in custody and charged with possession of a stolen handgun and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony.
He was taken to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center. Investigators say a records check indicated the gun was reported stolen in another Midlands city.
