SCDC: Inmate charged with murder in connection to death of cellmate

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A Broad River Correctional Institute inmate is being charged with the murder of his cellmate, said SCDC.

The South Carolina Department of Corrections said, Marques Quantez Heath, 40, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by an inmate in the Nov. 7 death of Donnel Geoffrey Brown.

Brown was found unresponsive in his cell on the morning of Nov. 7, 2023.

Investigators say Heath stabbed Brown multiple times to the head, neck and chest which caused Brown to die.

Heath is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for numerous drug and assault charges.
