Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill announces resignation, book co-author reacts

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– On Monday morning Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill announced she will be resigning effective immediately.

Hill and her attorney Justin Bamberg made the announcement during a press conference in front of the Colleton County Courthouse in Walterboro around 11 a.m.

Her resignation comes as she is at the center of investigations by SLED into allegations that she may have abused her government position for financial gain.

Neil Gordon, Becky Hill’s co-author on “Behind The Doors of Justice:  The Murdaugh Murders,” has issued the following statement about her resignation:

A South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agent interviewed me Friday morning. They expressed a great deal of concern about Becky possibly using her office for personal gain,” said Gordon. “In their questioning of me, they were honing in on how many different times Becky did book signings, interviews, and speaking engagements during the workday. I sincerely hope her resignation lessens any potential action taken against her, and that it restores public trust in the office of clerk of court.

In a press release, it also goes to read that Gordon attempted to pull their book off shelves after the news of Hill plagiarizing her parts came to light.

Gordon says after Alex Murdaugh’s federal sentencing hearing, he will be announcing a large donation to charity.

Hill who served as the Colleton County Clerk of Court since 2020 is also accused of tampering with the jury during the double murder trial of convicted killer Alex Murdaugh.

Hill submitted her resignation letter to Governor Henry McMaster.
