Landmarks across South Carolina to light up for Red Cross Giving Day
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The American Red Cross is celebrating March is Red Cross Month across South Carolina to recognize the Red Cross volunteers who give their time in service to the community.
On March 27 also known as Red Cross Giving Day, significant and historical landmarks across the Palmetto state will light up red.
Places across the state that will light up red for the day:
- The Governor’s Mansion – Columbia, S.C.
- Lexington Medical Center – Columbia, SC & Lexington, S.C.
- Furman University Bell Tower – Greenville, S.C.
- Liberty Bridge – Greenville, S.C.
- VCOM Carolinas Smokestack (Old Spartan Mill Chimney) – Spartanburg, S.C.
- Marriott – Spartanburg, SC (flying Red Cross flag on Wednesday)
- Chapman Cultural Center – Spartanburg, S.C. (flying Red Cross flag on Wednesday)
- Skywheel – Myrtle Beach, S.C. (lit up red on March 22)
“This month is very special for us because it gives us a chance to celebrate the nearly 2,200 volunteers who make our humanitarian work possible every day,” said Rod Tolbert, Regional CEO of the Red Cross of South Carolina.
Last year alone, the American Red Cross of South Carolina responded to more than 1,700 local disasters, assisting nearly 5,000 people by distributing more than $1,200,000 in direct financial assistance following local disasters, said the Red Cross.
Additionally, the Red Cross of South Carolina collected more than 70,000 units of lifesaving blood, made more than 7,600 homes safer through educational visits, and provided more than 10,300 case services to military, veterans and their families.
