Sumter officers searching for person responsible for sports complex damage

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter Police is working to identify the person responsible for more than $100,000 in damage at a sports complex, says the department.

Officers say on Monday morning, March 25, they were called to Patriot Park sports complex when a walker discovered a possible break-in at the facility.

Around 7:30 a.m., officers found graffiti in black paint that was taken from the storage area of the park and damage to equipment and electronics including the heating and air conditioning units, computers and camera/security system and to the concession stand and various supplies.

Restrooms were also found with damage.

Police believe the vandalism happened sometime after closing around 8 p.m. on Sunday and the time of discovery on Monday morning.

A reward of up to $5,000 is available for information that can lead to arrests.
