COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A man who was recently arrested and charged with arson is now facing more charges, say Columbia Police.
Jarod Stacy, 27, was recently arrested after setting a fire inside a retail store on Monday night.
Stacy is being charged with arson after officers say he set a fire at a Garners Ferry Road Walmart around 11 p.m. on March 25.
Walmart employees were able to contain and extinguish the flames using fire extinguishers as a fire crew headed to the scene.
There were no reported injuries. According to the store, the fire caused around $30,000 in damages to miscellaneous merchandise.
Investigators say there is also video of Stacy allegedly setting fire to a Walmart on Two Notch Road the evening before.
After a search of the store, officers recognized him inside of the building and tried to arrest him before he ran out of the store and hid in the woods.
So law enforcement began to search the woods near the store when they found him, and he was arrested.
Stacy was arrested and taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Investigators say at the time of the arrest, Stacy gave officers the wrong identity.
But they were able to find out his true identity through fingerprint comparison and facial recognition.
After being questioned about his identity, Stacy gave CPD his real name and a family member helped investigators identify him too.
He is now being charged with arson-second degree and identity fraud.
