Police investigating shooting that left man injured
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Police are investigating after a man was left injured following a shooting, say Sumter Police.
The Sumter Police Department says officers and deputies responded to Shannon/Red & White streets area after gunfire was heard around 12:30 p.m.
When they arrived to the scene law enforcement found a vehicle parked near the Shannon and Red & White streets intersection that was shot.
Inside of the vehicle was a 22-year-old driver from Sumter with multiple gunshot wounds, say police.
The man was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey and then transferred to a Columbia hospital.
Officers say they also found at least four houses that were hit by gunfire. At the time of the gunfire, three of the four houses has someone inside.
No one was reported as injured. Sumter Police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
Officers are asking that anyone who might have seen or heard anything or can provide descriptions of vehicles or people in the area before or after the shooting to call 803-436-2700.
