Senator Mia McLeod announces she will not seek re-election

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A long time South Carolina senator announced she is not running for re-election.

Independent Senator Mia McLeod made the announcement on her Facebook page on Monday.

She has served District 22- Kershaw and Richland Counties for 14 years in the House and Senate.

McLeod also ran for governor in 2022 and become the first Black woman in South Carolina to do so.
