COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The Department of Transportation says there will be a temporary closure of a section of I-126 eastbound, just east of the I-26/I-126 Interchange.

The closure will happen on the evening of Thursday, April 4.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation says the closure will allow workers to safely transport and set new bridge beams in their permanent location over the interstate.

Construction on the bridge is a part of SCDOT’s ongoing work of the Carolina Crossroads Project in Richland and Lexington counties.

Local law enforcement and transportation authorities will be onsite during the closure for traffic management.

The closure is expected to start around 10 p.m. and traffic will be stopped in increments of around y 20 minutes as crews work.

SCDOT says additional closures will likely be required overnight but vehicles in the area will be allowed through incrementally as the beams are safely secured over the travel lanes.
