Former Boeing whistleblower found dead from apparent ‘self-inflicted’ gunshot wound

(CNN)– A former Boeing employee turned whistleblower was found dead in South Carolina.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office says 62-year-old John Barnett died on March 9, possibly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Charleston Police are investigating.

Barnett worked for Boeing for decades and had raised serious concerns about Boeing’s production standards.

In a statement to CNN, lawyers for Barnett said, “John was in the midst of a deposition in his whistleblower retaliation case, which finally was nearing the end”.

They say he was in good spirits and showed no indiction he would take his own life.
