Gas, house prices push up inflation

(CNN)– Surging gas prices and high housing costs sent inflation rising higher than expected in March.

According to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, prices jumped 3.5% last month marking the highest annual gain in the past 6 months.

Prices rose in almost every major category.

Gas and housing costs accounted for more than half of that monthly increase.

Prices fell in only a couple of categories like used and new cars.

And other prices like groceries remained flat.
