ONE-ON-ONE: USC provost explains international business program’s high rankings
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — There are a couple of things that the University of South Carolina is number one at.
Women’s college basketball and international business.
“We have a long-standing history of being the number one international business program,” said USC provost Donna Arnett. “It really brings great significance to our Darla Moore School of Business.”
While USC’s undergraduate acceptance rate is around 64 percent, the international business programs are much more selective.
“It’s internationally kept to a smaller level because of two things: the experiential learning piece which takes a while to set up and the international aspect,” Arnett said.
The undergraduate international business program has been first in the nation for 25 years and the international MBA has been top in the country for the past 11 years.
The provost says the strength of this program is the study abroad opportunities.
“We have established relationships with more than 50 of the highest ranked business schools around the world,” she said.
While the program may be one of the university’s most rigorous majors, graduates often find their effort was worth it.
“Having a job placement close to 98 percent is great. Our students are graduating with great jobs,” the provost said. “That’s one of the top things we hear from our students.”
The Darla Moore School of Business is nationally recognized in more than just one major.
“We are top ranked in supply chain management. We learned a lot about supply chain issues during the pandemic and how it affects the economy at large,” Arnett said. “We also have one of the top accounting programs as well.”
The university plans to celebrate 50 years of international business with a two-day event next week.
