RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The Department of Social Services says an infant has been surrendered under Daniel’s Law in Richland County on Monday.

Daniel’s Law also known as the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act provides a safe, legal option to surrender infants up to 60 days old at designated locations outlined by law.

The 5 pounds, 7 ounces baby was safely surrendered at Prisma Health Richland Hospital after birth and is being medically evaluated at this time, says DSS.

DSS also says once the child is discharged from the hospital, he will be placed in a DSS licensed foster home.
