COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Starting on Monday evening, traffic on South Main Street will shift west toward the Assembly Street side with one lane in each direction open for motor vehicle traffic, says SCDOT.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation says the traffic shift is apart of the second phase of construction on the South Main Street Streetscape Project.

Also, phase II construction includes the installation of curbs, driveways, drainage structures, and sidewalks on the east side closest to Sumter Street.

Businesses on both sides of South Main Street will continue to be accessible. SCDOT asks that anyone traveling in the area use caution in and around the active work zone.

The Department of Transportation says Pendleton Street median construction will also take place during this phase and SCDOT will announce traffic impact information as that work begins.
