New airline refund rules require cash instead of vouchers

(CNN)– New federal rules say air travelers deserve cash refunds, not just vouchers or travel credits when flights are delayed or canceled.

Passengers will receive automatic cash refunds if a domestic flight is delayed by more than three hours.

The same applies to international flights that are more than six hours behind schedule.

Airlines are also required to provide information upfront about fees for baggage and changing flights.

The rules were announced by the Transportation Department on Wednesday.

Many airlines have done away with the change fees and disclose all related costs on their websites.
