Claflin University Student Development and Services VP injured in shooting incident while driving home, school says

School officials say Vice President for Student Development and Services Dr. Leroy A. Durant was driving home on Wednesday night, April 24, when he was injured in a shooting incident.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– According to Claflin University, the Vice President for Student Development and Services was injured after a shooting incident on Wednesday night.
School officials say Vice President for Student Development and Services Dr. Leroy A. Durant was driving home on Wednesday night, April 24, when he was injured in a shooting incident.
Dr. Durant was treated for his injuries at MUSC in Orangeburg before being released from the hospital.
He told investigators he was leaving a program at Claflin University when he turned onto Belleville Road from Chest Street.
As he was passing Mingo Street, he heard a loud noise and started feeling lightheaded and dizzy.
Dr. Durant also told investigators he then noticed blood coming from his head which is what lead him to drive himself to the hospital.
Hospital officials told law enforcement Dr. Durant was hit with a through and through bullet but it did not pierce his head.
