Stolen car chase in Richland County ends in teen shot

 

 

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– On Monday, April 29, ABC Columbia learned new details after an deputy involved shooting that happened on Sunday.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says on Saturday night a 15-year-old boy stole a truck that had a gun inside from a convenience store in Lexington.

On Sunday, around 5 p.m. Deputies/ K9 officer handlers Cody Sox and Kory Mayo came across the stolen truck in the Summit Community, then attempted to make a traffic stop.

The driver failed to stop and a chase began that reached the Carriage Oaks subdivision.

Three teens left the vehicle before it crashed.

Two K9 officers bit and captured a 15-year-old and 19-year-old Javonte Sutton.

On Monday, Sheriff Leon Lott says the third suspect who is a 16-year-old pointed a stolen loaded gun at Deputy Sox.

Deputy Sox shot the teen multiple times.

According to the sheriff’s department the two teens but by the K9s have been treated for the bits.

The 16-year-old who was shot is still in the hospital and is expected to recover.
