(CNN)– The pandemic had an impact on nearly every aspect of daily life including the shopping mall food court.

Mall burger joints and restraints are being replaced by sushi conveyor belts, craft-beer membership clubs and Korean barbecue.

Many of the old department stores left and they took name brand chains like Ruby Tuesday, Chili’s and Applebee’s with them.

The new 21st century mall is all about regional restaurant chains with a local following and a wider menu of global cuisines.
