Man found dead in cell at Lee Correctional Institution

BISHOPVILLE, S.C. (WOLO)– A Lee Correctional inmate who murdered his pregnant fiancee was found dead in his cell Tuesday.

The State Department of Corrections is investigating 34-year-old Tristan Gist’s death as a homicide.

In March of 2013, Gist, a former Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center officer fatally shot his pregnant fiancee 22-year-old Dierra Fisher while she was sleeping in their apartment.

He later took her body to a Richland County landfill and set her on fire. Gist was sentenced to 60 years in prison.

SLED is also assisting in Gist’s homicide investigation.
