Woman sentenced after death of newborn baby
Lexington, S.C. (WOLO)– Lexington Co. Deputies say Brennan Gellar, 27, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the death of her newborn daughter.
Officials say Geller pleaded guilty to Homicide by Child Abuse.
Deputies say on August 4, 2018 deputies responded to Lexington Medical Center after an infant was found dead in a trash bag inside a Jeep Laredo belonging to Ms. Gellar.
According to deputies, the infant was found by one of Gellar’s family members.
Investigators say Gellar left work early on August 3rd knowing she was in labor. Deputies say her web history included searches like “what to expect while in labor” and “when do contractions stop”.
That evening, deputies say, Geller gave birth to her daughter, cut her umbilical cord with scissors, and placed her body in a trash bag.
Authorities say Gellar went to the hospital for treatment and denied giving birth but a search of her car revealed scissors and towels used during the birthing process.
The infant’s father only learned of the pregnancy during the investigation, he then fought for paternal rights to give his daughter a proper burial. He named her Kimberly Faith.
“I was never given the opportunity to hold her in my arms, I only get to hold her in my heart,” he said in court. “It breaks my heart knowing that she’s not here on earth right now with me making some of the childhood memories a father and daughter should be making at 5 years old.”
