Orangeburg County deputies warning residents about sheriff’s department captain scam
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell is warning residents about a scam seeking victim’s identities while posing as a sheriff’s department captain.
“In this one, they’re just flat out asking for your personal information and this while using the name of one of my captains,” the sheriff said.
Sheriff Ravenell says a resident called Captain James Green of the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office saying she had received a call from the captain.
The resident also says the fake Captain Green had a foreign accent and asked for personal information while stating a case file had been created on the citizen.
“And they were even shameless enough to ask if this citizen had any assets,” Ravenell said.
If anyone receives a call like this one, you are urged to hang up and report the call to the Orangeburg County Communications Center at 803-534-3550.
