Graduation ends with unfortunate moniker mishap
(CNN) — In tonight’s What in the World file, I was taught by one of my old bosses, Helene Salvatori that the first rule of Journalism is to get it right. Especially names. If you don’t the only thing people will remember from your story is that you got their name wrong.
That rule of thumb rings true today. Why? Students at a Philadelphia Nursing school could barely recognize their own names being called at their graduation.
It was an unfortunate series of events really the names were written on cards, phonetically and it degenerated into a hilarious series of mispronunciations. Here are just a few.
That last name, Ta Moo May well, in English it means Thomas. We aren’t sure why the announcer couldn’t say Thomas. It’s only the name of the school, Thomas Jefferson University!!
