Lexington County Coroner identifies man who died after multi-vehicle collision

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the person who died in a multi-vehicle accident in Lexington County, says the coroner’s office.

The collision happened in the 4300 block of Highway 321 in the Gaston around 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14.

According to Coroner Fisher, Whiteford Cornell McWaters, 53, of Summerville was traveling northbound on Highway 321 when he was struck head-on by a vehicle traveling southbound in the
northbound lane.

McWaters was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital also with unknown injuries.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the incident.
