State treasurer announces return of PalmettoBaby Grant Program
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Babies born in South Carolina at the end of this month will get a birthday gift from the state.
State Treasurer Curtis Loftis announced that babies born in South Carolina on May 29, will be eligible for $529 as part of the 529 grant.
Which is to be used toward a future scholarship account. The grants are privately funded.
“South Carolina’s Future Scholar 529 College Savings Plan is proud to offer once again privately funded $529 grants to the parents of every South Carolina baby born on May 29,” said Treasurer Loftis.
For about 11 years Treasurer Loftis has partnered with hospitals across the Palmetto State to promote saving for the future scholar’s college education through the PalmettoBaby Grant Program.
In addition to the opportunity to secure a grant, South Carolina parents who give birth on Monday, May 29, receive a Future Scholar goody bag, which includes information about the 529 college savings plan.
To receive the PalmettoBaby grant, parents of babies born on May 29 must complete the grant application and open a Future Scholar account by August 31, 2023.
