Officers investigating fatal stabbing, says Sumter Police

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter Police say officers are investigating after a man was found dead in the road early Friday morning.

Authorities say they were responding to a domestic-related stabbing before 3 a.m. on Friday when they found Joseph Marion Croft, 52, of Camden Highway, dead in the road on Broad Street near Broad Court.

Also, a 34-year-old woman who officers say was involved in the stabbing was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and is being interviewed by detectives.

An investigation to determine the circumstances and facts remains ongoing, says the Sumter Police Department.

Croft’s autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
