SCDOT to shift traffic onto new Broad River Road bridge over I-20
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Starting tonight, traffic will shift from the existing bridge on Broad River Road over Interstate 20 onto a newly constructed bridge as a part of the Carolina Crossroads Project, says SCDOT.
The traffic shift is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 17, and is expected to be completed by 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.
South Carolina Department of Transportation says the traffic shift will involve transitioning traffic from the existing bridge to the new bridge to allow for demolition and reconstruction of the existing bridge.
Drivers should be aware that all lanes of traffic on Broad River Road will be affected.
As a result of the traffic shift, there will be a new traffic pattern for drivers exiting I-20 westbound and taking the off-ramp onto Broad River Road toward Columbia.
Message boards and construction signs will be placed along Broad River Road and the I-20 Westbound off-ramp throughout the duration of the traffic shift, while law enforcement will also be onsite to direct traffic, says the Department of Transportation.
Drivers are advised to use caution and plan accordingly in case of delays.
