Women in Philanthropy to host annual “Power of the Purse” event

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Women in Philanthropy is rolling out the pink carpet and hosting its annual “Power of the Purse” event this Thursday, May 23.

Women in Philanthropy is an affinity group of the United Way of the Midlands.

The event is no stranger to the Midlands but this year the organization has seen a decline in ticket sales and is asking for more support from the community in order to continue the event and help those in need.

The proceeds benefit women and children causes in the Midlands.

Mary Gonzalez who is a member says many of the women they help have a hard time in relationships, abuse and are dealing with poverty.

The event will feature one of a kind auction items, designer handbags and vacation getaways.
