Lexington Police continuing to investigate morning collision that left motorcyclist dead
LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO)– The Lexington Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is continuing to investigate the fatal collision that occurred on Industrial Drive on Monday morning, said the department.
Previously, investigators said 20-year-old Giovanni Mendoza-Jimenez was citied for the Industrial Drive collision when he collied into someone on a motorcycle and a Lexington County School District One school bus.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the person on the motorcycle who was killed during the collision as Jon Douglas Ratcliffe.
Also, a student on the bus was treated for a cut on his arm.
When booked into the Lexington County Detention Center, Mendoza-Jimenez was issued a citation for driving without a license.
Then on Tuesday, May 21st, he was issued additional citations for driving too fast for conditions and failure to stop for a school bus, says LPD.
Investigators say Mendoza-Jimenez, who is a citizen of Mexico, was unlawfully in the United States.
A detainment order has been placed on him, and he will be turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement whenever he is able to post bond.
