Newberry County warns of scam making the rounds
Newberry Co.,SC (WOLO) — The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam they say is making the rounds. Deputies say the most recent scam is trying to dupe people out of their personal information through mail, texts and emails.
Authorities say in each form of communication, the scammer claims the person owes money for a bill for the company Sun Pass which is a Florida toll Road system. Officials say the caller threatens action if a payment is not made. The links listed on the various communications ask the victim to provide their credit card or other financial details.
Newberry deputies advise anyone who may have been to the sunshine state recently and did not pay a toll to look for an invoice from the company that would be sent first to the registered owner. The Sheriff’s Office says any threats made claiming to prosecute you or get your financial information are fraudulent.
