Police: Driver killed, passenger injured following shooting at intersection

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter Police say a driver is dead and a passenger is injured after a shooting this morning at Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive.
Officers responded to a shots fired call at about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection where they found a 32-year-old driver and a 28-year-old passenger near the area.
An initial investigation indicates the victims’ car was stopped at the traffic signal on Green Swamp Road when a white sedan drove up alongside and fired shots.
Police say the white vehicle then sped away on South Guignard Drive.
The driver, whose name will be released later by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover.
The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Sumter Police Department at 803- 436-2700.
