Man calls deputies after allegedly fatally shooting wife

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A man was arrested in Sumter County after he called 911 to report that he killed his wife, say Sumter County deputies.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says the Sumter County Dispatch received a call on Sunday morning, May 26, around 6:28 a.m. from a man claiming to have shot and killed his wife the night before.

During the call, the man asked that deputies respond to the scene without sirens. When the first deputy arrived to the scene, 61-year-old Fred Falls was found sitting on his porch.

The sheriff’s office says Falls was detained by other deputies when they arrived to the scene. Once inside the residence, investigators found the victim lying motionless on the floor with a fatal gunshot wound.

Investigators began the investigative process and collected evidence, including two firearms at the scene, say deputies. Also law enforcement says Falls confessed to deputies that he had shot his wife the night before.

Fred Samuel Falls was arrested for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he remains following the court denying his bond.
