COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Starting on the evening of Friday, May 31, SCDOT will implement a temporary detour for drivers using the ramp from I-126 westbound onto I-26 eastbound.
SCDOT says the detour will help the Department of Transportation to safely shift vehicle traffic from the existing flyover ramp onto a new permanent ramp, which was recently completed as part of the Carolina Crossroads Phase I project in Richland and Lexington Counties.
The detour will begin at 8 p.m. with the closure of the existing flyover ramp, and will remain in effect continuously until Monday, June 3 at 5 a.m. with the opening of the new ramp.
The Department of Transportation says a message board has been placed along I-126 westbound prior to the Colonial Life Boulevard exit ramp and will remain throughout the duration of the detour to notify motorists of the temporary traffic pattern.
Drivers are advised to use caution and plan accordingly in case of delays. Real-time traffic information is always available at 511sc.org.
Detour Directions:
Drivers traveling from I-126 westbound to I-26 eastbound will be directed to take exit 107A toward I-20 westbound. Within the interchange loop, motorists will stay to the right and proceed to merge onto I-26 Eastbound toward Charleston.
