The monkey that was on the loose in Colleton County last week is deceased.

On May 29, county officials confirmed the death of Bradley, a 15-year-old Japanese macaque. Bradley escaped his habitat on May 23 and was on the loose in the Walterboro area for five days.

County officials previously announced that Bradley was found, but did not speak on his status. They are now saying Bradley was not recaptured alive; a cause of death has not been announced, as of May 29.

According to county officials, no Colleton County personnel or resources were involved in the incident.

Bradley lived in his habitat in Walterboro for almost six years, according to officials.
