Bamberg, SC (WOLO) — The Bamberg County Sheriff’s Department will be able to protect  and serve while keeping themselves a little bit safer thanks to a $9,266 state funded Body Armor Assistance Grant. The money will allow the department to get five body armor vests for their deputies to use in the field.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs, or OHSJP, along with the South Carolina General Assembly designated a one time state fund with the goal of helping area law enforcement agencies to better access these pieces of equipment.

Bamberg County Sheriff Kenneth Bamberg released a statement concerning the grant talking about how critically important it is for his deputies to be able to obtain these types of materials to aid in their ability to do their job effectively and now just a bit safer. His statement saying,  “Quality body armor is an essential component of effective law enforcement. We are extremely grateful to the SC Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) as well as Bamberg County administrators who collaborated on this effort. My deputies and I are committed to serving the citizens of Bamberg County, and these new vests will assist us in that endeavor while providing another layer of protection.”
