Gov. McMaster signs the ‘Child Online Safety Act’ and ‘The Help, Not Harm’ bills
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Governor Henry McMaster signed the ‘Child Online Safety Act’ and ‘The Help, Not Harm’ bill on Wednesday, May 29.
The first bill makes websites have an 18 and up age verification system if they have content deemed inappropriate for minors.
The second bill also involves minors as it prohibits any doctor from providing gender transitioning care to any person under 18 years old.
Last Summer lawmakers heard from medical experts who testified on both sides of the topic.
Representative John McCarty has been a long time supporter of ‘The Help, Not Harm’ bill.
But the bill does not come with controversy as members of the LGBTQ organization, P-Flag believes it takes away parents’ rights to do what they feel is best for their child.
