Sumter Police to shut down roads for K-9 5K Run Walk

Sumter, SC (WOLO) — If you plan to be in the Sumter area this weekend we have a traffic alert to pass along to you. Sumter Police are gearing up for the Epps Orthodontics K-9 5K Run/Walk which is scheduled to take place Saturday morning. But before the event takes place police will have traffic control and security measures in place.

Police say they will start their efforts to keep traffic clear from the Westmark Boulevard, Wilson Road area starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. The actual event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. at Epps Orthodontics (669-A W Wesmark Blvd, Sumter, SC 29150) and will continue along Westmark Boulevard, Wilson Boulevard, Creek Side Drive and Fennimore Drive and then return back to Epps Orthodontics. 

Police are asking anyone who will be driving in the area around the time of the race to use extra caution and patience. Officials say the aforementioned roads will be shut down until the event concludes and will return to normal traffic flow around 11 a.m. Anyone needing to get through this area between race times may want to consider finding an alternate routes.

The event is an effort to raise money for the homeless pet population, and according to the organizations web page 100% of the proceeds raised during the run/walk will go directly to the Sumter SCPA.
