Costco’s hotdog price is staying put, CFO says

(CNN)– Costco costumers fear not, the beloved $1.50 hotdog and soda combo which has cost the same since 1985 is here to stay.

The chain’s CFO said despite media speculation, the price isn’t going up. If Costco’s hotdog deal kept pace with inflation, it would be nearly $4.50.

But the $1.50 price point is a strategic decision. Costco is willing to lose money on the deal if it helps draw and retain customers.

Plus, the company offsets hotdog losses by cutting costs and raising prices for pizza and other food court items.
