Election to be held for new SC justice
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina lawmakers will return tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5, to elect a new state Supreme Court justice.
This comes after Chief Justice Dawn Beatty is retiring due to the state’s age limit of 72.m Lawmakers will choose between judges Blake Hewitt of Conway and Leticia Virden of Greenville.
Circuit Court Judge Jocelyn Newman dropped out of the race. South Carolina is the only state with an all male Supreme Court.
According to the Brennan Center for Justice, it will join 18 other states with all white high courts.
