World’s largest 3D printer builds wood home

(CNN)– Researchers at the university of Maine have come up with a revolutionary new way to address the nation’s housing shortage.

A 600-square-foot single family home was built with what researchers say is the world’s largest polymer 3D printer.

They say this is the first 100% 3D printed home built from local wood fiber and bio-resin materials.

The university’s advanced structures and composites center unveiled the 3D printer last month.

Right now, it can produce 500 pounds of material per hour, researchers say the goal is to print 1 thousand pounds of material an hour.
