Senior Resources searching for volunteers for Meals on Wheels program
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Senior Resources is looking for volunteers for its Meals on Wheels program.
The organization says 203 older adults in Richland County are currently sitting in their homes waiting for meal services.
The waiting list has increased by over 500% from around this time last year, says Senior Resources.
Senior Resources says despite the increased support from donors and volunteers in the last year, keeping up pace with needs is challenging.
Like many people in the U.S. the organization has also felt the impact of raised food prices.
As the organization heads into the summer months it is asking for the communities help:
- Make a monetary donation to increase available service levels.
- Volunteer to prepare and deliver meals to help keep our costs down.
- Advocate to federal, state, and local leaders to meet the growing needs in our community.
- Collect food pantry items that we can use in emergency situations to keep those seniors on our waiting list from going hungry while they wait for their next meal.
