Company recalling ground black pepper distributed nationwide due to salmonella risk

(CNN)– A Michigan-based company announced a recall of seven-ounce containers of ground black pepper from the “Baraka” brand name.

The Food and Drug Administration says the spices from UBC Food Distributors could have potential for salmonella contamination.

The pepper was sold nationally in retail stores. The FDA says no related illnesses have been reported to date.

Michigan officials discovered the contamination during a routine surveillance sample.

Consumers are advised to return the product for a full refund.
